Small Appalachian Gathering Basket

The Small Appalachian Gathering Basket by Billie Ruth Sudduth is a functional market type basket made to hold your favorite objects- books, pet toys, gloves and scarves, apples and other fruit, or just your interest.

The basket is plaited with a woven handle for extra strength. It measures 10 inches high by 15 inches wide by 10 inches deep. The handle is split oak and the basket is woven with reed splints. The dye is my special stain made with linseed oil and “other” secret ingredients.

I left a career as a school psychologist to become a full time basket maker. Now in my 34th year of basket making, many of my baskets are in private collections and museums including the Smithsonian and the Museum of art and Design.
