Red Salem Basket
Now into my 34th year of basket making, this is basket number 10505. I spent most of my basketmaking career participating in high end craft shows and made museum quality baskets that became part of many public collections. Now that I am off the road and in my studio full time, I am making a variety of baskets as art objects and functional pieces.
The dye in this basket is very special. It is henna and madder dyed
The dye process is two weeks. The weaver stays in the dyepot a week then goes into a salt, vinegar, and water bath another week to set the color and bleed out the excess dye. It is as lightfast and colorfast as a dye can be. It is a sturdy little basket that will last generations.
My baskets are shipped priority mail and come signed, dated, and numbered.
